This could be for students doing reports on him. The authors other related works are “true symbol of human greatness’, celebrated on centenary of his birth.” I think theses quotes Nelson talks about are the most import thing. I think this because we kind of have an idea what he was thinking and what could’ve went into his thought process when writing his book. He wants people to hear that “Nothing’s impossible” and that they can “Make a difference.” He wants people to “Be optimistic” and I think all these quotes reflect in his work. Not only is he telling people this but he incorporates this into his writing for children! He wants them to understand these virtues.

He did not make up stories to just make them up for fun. He had a lesson that was within the story.

He at first advocated violence to achieve his political ends. Martin Luther King Jr tried it the non-violent way and Nelson did not believe that would work. He pushed a few boundaries but in the end was able to reach his people and become a good leader.

Introduction
I chose these different articles because in some way they all relate to the story “Nelson Mandela’s Favorite African Folktales.” I did a lot of research on Nelson. I wanted to know why he was such a great person for these children’s books. Nelson was a great role model for his country. He spoke up and was not afraid to speak the truth. He wanted a better place for everyone. He wanted justice. He wanted so many things and he did a lot with the platform he had. He chose to do charity work. Nelson was a great man to be a children’s book author. He was also a great role model.
I also looked at other sites besides just Nelson. I looked into what it took to write a children’s book. It is not rocket science but you do need to have an idea of what you want children to learn from the book. Kids are like sponges. The can hear the teacher and or parent read them that story and pick up the good from the bad and the right from the wrong.
Hey Delaney! I enjoyed reading all about the impact Nelson Mandela had on our world. Specifically, within literature and other lesson or moral discussions a lot of his understandings and reasoning are brought up to add points to an issue. It is obvious he is an important figure all around the world, but specifically his own community. I would love to understand and to see deeper thought when the reflection portion of your essay is brought to light. His culture and other traditions in relation to different societal values has a lot to do with upbringing, when you dive deeper after revising I offer advice to look within the morals and values of your own life and reflect Mandela’s teachings in accordance. As we have explored different traditions within our world literature class-why did you pick this particular group of stories? I understand this is a draft, but before final submission make sure to put the introduction into the beginning portion of the annotated bibliography to gear the reader to your research. Annotated bibliographies should also be displayed and organized in alphabetical order, I find the website easybib.com to be super helpful with this! The site can cite your sources in MLA format as well as organize them in alphabetical order! Other than your curiosity about Nelson Mandela, what lead you to further research about his folktales, advice and so on? Some of your sources reflect on folktales and how to write a children’s book, within your introduction or your reflective essay it would be beneficial to add how these ideas correlate with Mandela as you have described already in your introduction. Overall you’re in the right direction, now it’s time to just connect the dots!

Hey Delaney, great sources and great work! I think it’s beneficial to research how to write a children’s book and all the time and effort it takes in doing so. I like how you stated that children need to learn moral values. I believe this is important and should be taught at a young age. Children’s stories like these can help with that learning process. Since you are doing your research on why Nelson was a qualified person to write these books, I think it was good that you have some biography information within the sources.
